We're Home!

Apr. 8th, 2009 | 06:15 pm

We got to come home from the hospital this afternoon. Brian is watching tv with Ezra, so I will try to write a rundown of the last few days before it all becomes to foggy. :)

Long Birth Story & PicturesCollapse )

Anyway, for those that couldn't get through my birth novel, here are the basic facts...

-I was induced with Pitocin at 11:30 on Sunday morning.
-Being strapped in bed during transition SUCKED, but I survived without any pain medication.
-After 20 hours of labor, Ezra John made his grand debut.
-He weighed 8 lbs 4 oz and was 20 inches long.
-Breastfeeding is hard work.
-Being a mom is awesome.
-I'm exhausted but happy.

I cannot believe that I'm 30 weeks pregnant today! I will be considered full term in 7 short weeks. Ack!

Brian has been going through boxes in the garage all day. Some cards, letters, and pictures have resurfaced. I also found my journal from my freshman/sophomore year at UNF. rockzilla if you're reading this, there are some particularly funny/embarrassing entries about you in there!

I also finally got my shipment of Goodmama diapers today. I've been waiting on these babies for WEEKS! I am seriously in love though, and can see why people get addicted (though I can't afford to). I also got my last shipment of Fuzzi Bunz this week. It looks like I'm just about finished with my diaper stash.

The movers will be coming on the 4th and 5th to pack and move our stuff. I'd really like to get out and do some fun Jacksonville-specific activities before I leave, but I don't know what to do!

Brian and I made it safely to Virginia yesterday. The journey took about nine hours, which wasn't bad... I napped for at least two of them.

We woke up early this morning and began our house hunt. My dad contacted a realtor and got a list of places that met our requirements (ie: 2+ bedrooms, fenced yard, dog friendly, under $1200 a month, located in Virginia Beach or Chesapeake). We went down the entire list one by one, plugged each address into our GPS and went by. We didn't get to go inside any of them, we just peaked in a lot of windows. The search took NINE hours. Out of the 19 houses we looked at, we are interested in 4 of them. There's one in particular that we really like, and we have an appointment to see it tomorrow.
The houses up here are SO different than Florida houses... Every house we've looked at has been older and small. A lot of them don't have garages, and the ones that do are one-car.
Brian and I are spending New Years Eve watching Wife Swap in our hotel room. :) This is actually the first New Years Eve in six that we've spent together!

Happy New Year everyone!

Apparently, this family was featured on Oprah.
I just watched the video, and sobbed like a baby through the whole thing.

I love summer vacations.

Hopefully I'll be able to get into my classroom on Thursday. We're leaving on Saturday for Kansas, so I'm feeling a little bit of pressure to get things set up and semi-organized before we leave.

I went to the movies last night (well, I guess it was two nights ago now) with Steph and Lauren and saw 'Evening'. I really enjoyed it. It made me emotional at certain points, especially thinking about when the time comes when my own mother grows old.

I'm cutting down my friends list. Please don't take it personally. I want my journal to be a little more intimate, and I find it hard to write freely when I don't have personal connections with everyone reading it.

Yesterday afternoon Brian and I decided to take a ride down to Jacksonville beach. He brought his fishing stuff, and I brought a towel, journal and book. It was a fantastic day to spend outside... sunny sky, but really windy. After a few hours, we decided to switch things up and headed down the street to Guana River State Park. It's beautiful there and not nearly so windy. The water is calm. Brian pointed out a big lump that he said was a manatee. With my eyesight, all I could see was a lump... but it is a manatee zone, so who knows!

Brian and I just got back from a relaxing day in the Osceola National Forest. This morning he suggested that we go on a picnic. The idea sounded fantastic to me, so we ran to the grocery store, picked up some food, and were soon on our way. We drove about forty-five minutes to the forest. We arrived at 1:30 and spent the afternoon relaxing next to Ocean Pond, which is easily big enough to be a lake! It was beautiful out... really windy though. Brian spent a couple of hours fishing, while I wrote in my journal, and read a new book. When we got tired of sitting around, we drove around the forest before coming home. It is days like today that make me really love my life.

This is a pretty scary map showing all the active fires here in Florida right now.
